Carnival Cruise Hurricane 2012

The storm "Isaac" intensified today by increasing its maximum sustained winds of 110 kilometers per hour and is about to become a hurricane en route to the northern coast of the Gulf of Mexico, forecasters said today National Hurricane Center (NHC) depediente of Wheather U.S. National Servcie.

"Additional strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours and is expected to 'Isaac' become a hurricane before reaching the northern Gulf coast, " the NHC in its bulletin at 16.00 pm local time.

A storm becomes a hurricane when its sustained winds reach 119 miles per hour.

The center of "Isaac" was located at latitude 26.4 degrees north and longitude 86.2 degrees west, 515 kilometers south-southeast of Mobile, Alabama, and 415 miles southeast of the mouth of the Mississippi River.

It is moving northwest at 19 kilometers per hour, is forecast to decrease its speed and then move over the eastern Gulf of Mexico tonight and then will approach north on Tuesday afternoon.

The NHC warned that there is a threat "significant" storm surge for the northern Gulf coast.

"The combination of storm surge and tide will cause normally dry areas near the coast from flooding, rising water levels, " he said.

Thirteen had to reschedule their cruise schedules and itineraries to avoid the fierce storm or minimize their impact to those found in navigation.
